Increased control over Representative Offices in China: SCS is providing Swiss SMEs an alternative solution for operation in a steady and fast growing economy
The State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) and the Ministry of Public Security has jointly announced further controls on the registration of representative institutions of foreign enterprises (RO) that may create negative impacts on the rep office operation in China. For example, on site visits or inspections by the regulatory authorities to the premises of a RO are going to be more frequent. Activities performed beyond the registered scope of a RO will be met with challenges. To apply for the set up of a RO is also going to be more difficult.
To register a wholly foreign owned entity or contract a RO hosting service are the alternatives for those Swiss companies with ambition and intention to benefit from the development of the Chinese market. SCS provides a variety of office spaces starting from open desks to small, middle and large independent office rooms. In particular, we are now offering three independent offices with each 30sqm net.
Located within SCS main premises in Xinzhuang Industry Park of Shanghai, these offices can be an ideal option to make your first step.
The usual rental fees include:
- Office furniture (desks, chairs, cabinet, etc.)
- Utility fees (i.e. electricity, air conditioning, toilets, drinking water supply)
- Office cleaning service
- Independent phone line (excl. communication fees)
- Free broadband internet connection access
- Office decoration
- Access to printer and fax machine
- Free access to shared public conference rooms

Very importantly, your company can also use the SCS employee hosting service, which is the best solution to start and test the market without the investment of registering a legal entity in the initial period. The SCS provides a recognized address and an actual office space for a first employee and initial activities. In this way your company may begin with market understanding, channel development, after sales services or supplier selection, purchasing and quality control.
